PRIMATES KILLED DURING TRANSPORT
Press release.
Primates killed during transport
A coalition of animal rights activists who started a campaign against RC Hartelust
BV, one of the biggest traders in laboratory animals for the
vivisection industry, recieved some horrible news.
During a transport of primates (Macaques fascicularis) on the 26 of January
2005 to the Smittskyddsinstitutet in Sweden (Swedish Institute for Infectious
Disease Control) four Macaques died.
After a period of quarantine at RC Hartelust BV in Tilburg (NL) fifty China-bred
Macaques were
transported by lorry from the Netherlands to Sweden by this Dutch supplier.
During the transport four of these Macaques died.
The reason for the monkeys' deaths is said to have been that the cages were
placed too close to a heating
apparatus inside the lorry. The transport lasted for 17 hours and their cages
were too close to the heater in the bus. The monkeys were given 1 apple each
during
the transport, and no water.
There is no information that the
conditions of the monkeys were checked at any time during transport. RC Hartelust
BV has informed that they assume all responsibility for what has happened.
On the 28th of January 2005 RC Hartelust BV
delivered four new monkeys. RC Hartelust BV uses Hyundai, Mercedes and Ford
mini vans.
The primates were placed in the on-going HIV-research at the Smittskyddsinstitutet.
In the Netherlands there's no longer HIV research on Chimpanzees. The research
had been a total waste of time and energy.
Primates and Chimpanzees (and other monkeys) do not develop AIDS. Dr. M. Feinberg
(AIDS researcher) quote:? If you develop a medicine which works in monkeys
and test it on humans you'll realize that humans react completely
different to the medicine than the monkeys did. You'll realize you wasted
5 to 6 years.
RC Hartelust BV has been in the news on the 9th of April this year, because
a coalition of animal rights
activists organized a demonstration against this trader. It was a peaceful
demonstration of 300 people, which came to a noisy end at the gates of the
company at the apelmeesterlaan 112b in Tilburg.
The fight against animal traders like RC Hartelust BV will continue. It's
a fight against the vivisection industry and therefore a fight for animal
liberation.
This is part of a big fight for a world where everybody can be free.
End of the press release.
