MONKEY DEALER HARTELUST TO BE PROSECUTED FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY

Laboratory animal trader from Tilburg accused of ill
treatment of animals.11-05-05 RC Hartelust BV, trader in laboratory animals
and seated in Tilburg (the Netherlands) will be prosecuted in Sweden.
The Swedish Animal Welfare Agency accuses RC Hartelust BV of ill treatment
of animals, ignoring the animal welfare law of Sweden and lacking the performance
of the EU-laws. The Dutch authorities have received a letter of comment.
One of the big fears of campaigners against Hartelust
BV came true. On the 26th of January 2005 4 monkeys died during transport
to the Swedish
Smittskyddsinstitutet (Swedish institute for
Infectious Disease Control). RC Hartelust BV was
responsible for the transport of the monkeys.
50 Macaques who were bred In China and had been in quarantine in Tilburg for
several months were
transported to Sweden. At the arrival 4 monkeys were dead. According to Swedish
reports the cause of death was dehydration. The monkeys were placed too close
to the heater in the mini van. During the 17-hour transport the monkeys were
given only 1 apple and no water. In an official reaction to the Swedish
institute RC Hartelust BV said to take complete
responsibility for the death of the 4 monkeys. On the
28th of January 2005 RC Hartelust BV delivered 4 new monkeys to the Swedish
institute. RC Hartelust uses the following mini vans; Mercedes, Ford and Hyundai.
The monkeys were transported to Sweden for HIV tests.
On the 9th of April 2005 an international
demonstration of animal rights activists against RC
Hartelust BV took place in Tilburg. The demonstration
of more than 300 people ended noisily at the gates of
the company at the Kapelmeesterlaan 112B in Tilburg.
Activists and campaigners of ?Stop the vivisection
industry? will go on with the fight against RC
Hartelust BV.The fight against traders in laboratory
animals like RC Hartelust BV and the fight against the
vivisection industry is a fight for animal liberation.
This is part of the big fight for a world where
everybody can be free.
