THOMAS COOK DEMO IN YORKS

Today Yorkshire activists held a
2 hour demo outside Thomas Cook in Wakefield City centre. We arrived to find
that street stalls and an exhibition lorry from West Yorkshire police were
set up and the precinct was full of people busy shopping.
We got out the banner and started handing out leaflets explaining to people
the connection that Cook has with animal abuse and the import of Primates
from Mauritius. People were shocked to learn that their holiday flight might
have animals slowly dying of thirst in the hold while they are on the plane.
"Sobering thought" one man said. I counted 11 people that turned
away from Cook and went around the corner to book with other travel agents.
I also spoke to my uncle who was going to book a holiday in Florida on Monday
for 5 and it didn't take long for him to change from Thomas Cook. He will
be looking else where in the morning! You might not feel it now but I am sure
you will after a while and we are here to stay, trust us we will win this
one just like all the others! In one day you lost 16 peoples' worth of bookings!
Workers started laughing at us so we got out the megaphone to ask what's was
so funny about the suffering of animals. We didn't get an answer from them
so I asked the public what they thought about workers laughing at the expense
of animals dying and suffering. One smart looking man went in to ask them
and told them what he thought of their behaviour! This was the reaction from
a member of the public! We got a reaction from the police as well who came
over from the exhibition lorry and said his boss was watching us from the
cctv above and said we was not to slag off Thomas Cook! They had complained.
I reminded him that it was nothing to do with him and if he thought we had
committed a crime then nick us. He explained he supported what we was doing
and said he had to come over and tell us. The police left us alone for the
rest of the demo.
Your move Thomas Cook, do the right thing and get the Mauritian government
to ban the primate exports and let the monkeys go free.
