Thomas Cook demo in Cardiff
As part of Mauritius Week, activists
in descended on Cardiff to expose to the public Thomas Cook's vile links with
the Mauritian Monkey Trade. We were met with outstanding support, not least
from the staff of Thomas Cook. We held aloft a banner explaining Thomas Cook's
involvement with the transportation of monkeys into the UK to be tortured
without anesthetic inside the hellholes of UK animal testing laboratories.
The police came and as usual embarassed themselves by exhibiting their complete
and total ignorance of public order law, they resorted to having to read the
activists' own 'Legal Advice for Activists' booklet and still got it wrong.
During these discussion members of the public came up to the police and argued
with them over their bullying of the activists.
Thomas Cook lost a lot of custom, the manager came out complaining 'We are
empty in there you know, no one is coming in because of you lot' and he had
to resort to putting up a sign, saying they were still open despite the 'inconvenience'.
We can't help it if the public act with compassion and decide to steer clear
of travel agents who will not speak out against animal cruelty.
As long as the bodies of the tortured primates mount, so will our determination
to end the sickening primate trade. BA, Air Mauritius and Air China have already
made an ethical descision to end their deals in animal torture and it is now
time for Thomas Cook to do the same.
