Thomas Cook demo in Telford
We held our demo on Saturday outside out local Thomas Cook in Telford Shopping Centre. We began by handing out leaflets to members of the public outside the shopping centre, and several of them came to chat to us. Five of us then moved into the Town Centre, where we propped our posters against the window of Thomas Cook and handed out leaflets to passers by. One member of our group also entered the store and gave leaflets to members of staff and customers. Several told us they would be taking their custom elsewhere.
The centres security staff then asked us to move or they would have to phone the police. We said we would wait for the police to arrive and talk to them, however, the security staff then physically removed us from the centre. We sensed that the peaceful part of our protest was over, so decided to make as much noise as possible as we were leaving. The members of the public seemed especially interested in our leaflets once they heard us shouting 'dont book at thomas cook' and witnessed the violent behaviour we were treated with.
All in all about 350 leaflets, and a considerable number of postcards and stickers were distributed. Our local newspaper will also be runnig a feature on our demonstration, so hopefully this issue will have come to the attention of many people in our area.
