Mauritius demos in Italy

On friday the italian campaign "Primati Liberi" (free primates) decided to join the world day of action against the Mauritius monkey trade.

In Milano 3 demos were held. In the morning a group of activists met in front of the Mauritius embassy with banners, megaphone and leaflets, shaming once again this country that profits on monkeys being tortured in labs. The highlight of the demo was to talk with the owner of a travel agency that didn't know about this boycott and
decided to join, he has been in fact asked last week to begin selling holidays to Mauritius but will answer NO until the monkey farms are closed! He will also write to protest to Mauritius Tourims Promotion Authority!

Later a bigger group of activists protested in front of the italian headquarters of Hotelplan, swiss based tour operator that is our target for this campaign because they have the biggest share in tourists sent to Mauritius from Italy. This demo was very visible, with lots of placards and in a good street. Hundreds of leaflets have been given, and many people vowed to never go to Mauritius!

Then we moved to Turisanda, wich is part of the Hotelplan group. They have a big shop, but by the time we were there they had shuttered 4 windows and 4 policemen in uniform were in front of the doors, not really welcoming customers to get in... and in fact not one entered
for more than one hour!

A brilliant day, and actions are going on! Mauritius, you better close down the farms rather than lose ll these potential tourists and travel agents!
