Air France demo in Belgium

Action on World Laboratory Animals Day

24 April 2006 – 24 April is World Laboratory Animals Day. Every year, more than 150 million animals (at a rough estimate) are abused and killed in laboratories all over the world. Particularly on this day it is good to realize that airline company Air France is the largest international carrier of laboratory animals such as monkeys. Air France transports laboratory animals and delivers them to animal dealers who resell them to (commercial) laboratories.

Here  http://www.tierbefreier.de/covance/video.html you see video of Covance, one of the companies that have monkeys delivered by airlines like Air France from the island of Mauritius.

Without suppliers like Air France, (commercial) organisations for laboratory animals would have to take much more trouble to get hold of laboratory animals and work much harder at finding alternatives for animal testing. There are hundreds of methods of investigation that are harmless to animals but until now they have rarely if ever been used. Moreover, there are hundreds of doctors and scientists who are against animal testing for scientific or ethical reasons. It's not only animal rights movements that have criticism, there’s also opposition in the field of science and practice.

One of the Belgian Air France offices is located in the centre of Antwerp. This is the reason why mascot Sally the Beagle and her supporters headed for this office once again on World Laboratory Animals Day. They wanted Air France to know that more and more people are starting to realize what awful rank the airline holds within the industry of animal testing.

This action got a lot of support from tourists, shoppers and people living in the neighbourhood. The film crew of Flemish regional television channel ATV reported on this action after the account was typed out by one of the sympathizing people living in that neighbourhood!

With the prospect of booking holidays by air, it's good to know that Air France keeps being completely indifferent to this subject, having seen our pictures of tortured laboratory animals.

Urgent call: send an e-mail to Air France TODAY and let them know that you - just like Bite Back - stand up for animal rights!
