Thomas Cook demo in Leeds

Activists in Leeds held an all-day picket outside Thomas Cook to kick off the Global Week of Action Against Mauritius.
Thousands of leaflets were handed out throughout the day whilst Thomas Cook remained empty for most of the time. The few people entering the travel agents were asked if they had a heart for the monkeys ripped from the wild, but only the occasional reply was received - "F*** Off" and once inside and sat down, their guilty conscience urged them to repeatedly turn round and peer through the windows at the demo outside.

The public were bursting with support, many people stopped to get more information and take postcards to send to the Mauritian Government and TC management. Police officers stopped and asked demonstrators to put away gory pictures as they could cause 'Alarm, harrasment and distress' to passers by. Instead, the images were just folded over and the message about Thomas Cook and animal abuse continued to be spread. At closing time, staff decided to have a game of 'last man standing' and stayed inside the store, fiddling around with mobile phones, brochures and staring into the air, some thought they were funny ripping up leaflets that had found their way into the store. Leaflets can be replaced TC, customers can't! The manager decided enough was enough and kicked the workers out, leaving 45 minutes late. When walking past the demo his courage picked up and he turned round and mouthed the word ìW*nkersî

Until next time!
