Russia speaks out for the monkeys in Nepal On Friday 17th, the activists gathered in the front of Nepalese General Embassy in Moscow to express their protest against Nepal's breeding of primates for further export to US laboratories for cruel experiments. Nepalese government hides the truth about the politics and purposes for which monkeys are bred, as well as the fact that the monkeys are enlisted as meant for export to American laboratories for research, which is illegal according to CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). The protest was held to support the international Gateway To Hell campaign, supporters and activists of which expressed their protest and outrage not only in Russia, but also in Belgium, Netherlands and many other countries. Despite the fact, that the number of participants was illegally restricted to 5 people by Moscow administration (instead of requested 50!) and the fact that Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggested to cancel the protest altogether, the action went well. 5 activists standing in front of the entrance of Nepalese Embassy with posters and banners, "NO to animal experiments!", "Stop export of primates", "Stop vivisection" and "Don`t be used by USA - Nepal monkeys must be saved!" were among the activists demands and slogans, which attracted attention of Embassy's employees and passers-by. The activists distributed 250 leaflets and collected 35 signatures in support of the appeal to the ambassador of Nepal's Republic to stop export of monkeys for cruel and unnecessary experiments. Passers-by showed a vivid interest in protest, asked about the reasons and expressed their support, while the Embassy's employees were observing the protest looking out the building's windows. Finally, activists made an attempt to enter the Embassy's building to pass the appeal and the signatures in it's support on to the correspondence office, to which the head of security (who made everything possible to keep the activists down throughout the whole protest) replied that "everything is already closed" and suggested to pass on the appeal to a security guard. To this he, of course, received a polite rejection. The collected signatures will be send to
